Vivaldi, the Chromium-based web browser alternative, just rolled out another big update. Vivaldi 7.5 comes with long-awaited features like colored Tab Stacks, stronger privacy with DNS over HTTPS, and many improvements to the browser’s core functions.

This makes it easier to quickly find different sets of tabs, but it also doesn't stand out like a sore thumb. As a bonus to this feature, a new "Edit Tab Stack" menu has been added. You can open it by right-clicking a tab stack and choosing "Edit Stack." From there, you can name the stack for better organization and pick a color to visually separate it from other stacks.

The tab right-click menu has also been redesigned and reorganized to be more straightforward. The new layout makes common actions faster, like opening new tabs, managing existing stacks, and moving tabs between windows. This is great if you use multiple tabs at once, because it cuts down on the time and confusion that would come from adjusting an existing stack.

Beyond these major updates, Vivaldi 7.5 includes many smaller improvements that make usability a little neater. The Address Bar has been fixed to address issues like focus problems, suggestion glitches, and dropdown inconsistencies. The built-in Ad Blocker now supports badfilter, strict3p, and strict1p rules, making content filtering more effective.

Bookmarks & Notes now work better with drag-and-drop, so it will give clearer visual feedback for easier organization. Mail & Calendar features have also been refined, with smarter email threading and better handling of calendar invites. One cool upgrade is in the Dashboard & Widgets section; it now has layout adjustments, improved transparency, and better drag-and-drop functionality for a more customizable interface. Finally, Quick Commands now show synced tabs and handle errors more smoothly, making them more reliable.

This feature may appeal to music or podcast listeners who don't want to pay for YouTube Premium.

A key privacy improvement in Vivaldi 7.5 is the option to set a custom DNS provider just for the browser, with full support for DNS over HTTPS (DoH). This feature encrypts DNS queries, which makes it more difficult to track browsing activity at the network level, and it is great at boosting overall privacy.

Along with new features, Vivaldi 7.5 fixed plenty of bugs to improve stability and performance. These include bugs that cause tabs to crash, menus to malfunction, or the browser to behave unpredictably. So you should see an improvement if you have had issues with the previous version of Vivaldi.

There are a lot of new features in Vivaldi 7.5, and my favorite is the tab stack colors, which look so much better than Chrome's alternative. You can download Vivaldi for Mac, Windows, Linux, iPhone, iPad, and Android.
